Signs it's time for an oil change!

Let's face it. We all have busy lives. Unfortunately, that means that it's fairly easy to forget to schedule important maintenance on our vehicles. Here is a list of some clues indicating you might have gone too long since your last oil change.

Noisier than normal

If your engine sounds slightly louder than it used to, it could be lacking oil. While exhaust issues are the biggest contributing factor to cars becoming louder, an engine that isn’t well lubricated can get a little grumpy sounding, too.

The check engine light shows up

Some cars have specific lights to indicate you need an oil change. In older vehicles the check engine light sometimes served as an indicator that you need an oil change. A warning light may also have similar wording, such as “Service engine soon”. Never ignore these warning lights.

Your oil isn’t golden

Check your dipstick. Pull it out of its holder, wipe it with a fresh, clean rag, and reinsert it. Pull it back out and check the color of the oil on the stick. If your oil is anything other than a golden or light brown color, it’s likely that you’re past due for an oil change.

When did I change it last?

Having trouble remembering when your oil was last changed? If so, it’s probable that your oil is past its prime. Depending on the type of oil that your car uses, it may require changes as often as every 3 months, or 3,000 miles (whichever comes first). Many newer vehicles use synthetic oil. Those types of vehicles can sometimes go as long as 10,000 miles between changes. Either way, ff you can’t remember the last time your engine oil was changed, it’s time to schedule an appointment with the SVG Motors service department. Changing your oil can help prevent serious damage to your engine, and no one wants to deal with that. You can easily schedule an appointment online on our website, and don't forget to download your coupon to get your oil changed for just $39.95! (Some restrictions apply, see service manager for details).
